Wordpress 2.2 Includes Security Fixes
If you’ve been holding off upgrading to Wordpress 2.2 you may want to reconsider. Mark Jaquith, one of the Wordpress developers has explained on his blog that 2.2 includes mandatory security fixes.
WordPress 2.2 is a mandatory security upgrade for WordPress 2.1.3 users. There will be no further releases in the 2.1.x branch. 2.2 includes security fixes that 2.1.3 lacks, so your only upgrade path is to 2.2.
He had me at mandatory security upgrade.

I’ll sound like an ingrate for raising an issue about a free offering as great as WP, but they’ve got to get a handle on release frequency, or make upgrading a less cumbersome project for self-hosted installs. Maybe just releasing patch scripts…
I’m betting that most installations are well behind the current version because just when you think enough time has passed to trust that the latest release is “stable”, they release a new one!

For me, I definitely like the NO Preview feature best! Next then is the comment approval thingy.

So, I take it you upgraded without any issues then?

Man, I saw that too. I suppose I should do that today. I was gonna hold off. Oh well. I take it that’s why you were down for a bit this week, Dan?

Spud, I just finished upgrading all my blogs and haven’t had any problems so far.
Derrich, the downtime was caused from hitting the front page of some high traffic sites, and having a web host who was completely inflexible.
The upgrade only involves uploading some files and clicking yes when it asks about the database upgrade. It doesn’t take long. I’d recommend backing up your files beforehand just in case.

Sarcasm, Dan. Sarcasm. I guess that’s what the smileys are for, right?
Thanks for sharing the real reason you were down though. Glad you’re back.
