MyBlogLog Adds Tagging

MyBlogLog has desperately needed a way to categorize blogs. Previously, trying to find blogs that matched your interests was hit and miss at best.

Admittedly they have rushed this feature out and are still refining how it functions, in particular how tags are displayed, however it’s nice to finally be able to actively search for blogs in a certain niche instead of stumbling around in the dark.

MyBlogLog Tags

I’ve pulled a few interesting points from Robyn’s post.

  • You can opt-out of tagging if you wish. The setting for this can be found on the Edit Profile page.
  • By rolling your mouse over tags you can see which users tagged you.
  • A tag can be deleted by hovering over it and clicking on the red x. Deleted tags won’t reappear even if someone else tags you with the same term.
  • Users are encouraged to use tags to mark spammers. When enough users have tagged a person with the term “schmoe” their account will be investigated.

It’s interesting to note that, as well as tags created by users, MyBlogLog appears to have bots crawling Technorati and del.icio.us, which are auto-applying tags to blogs.

If you visit the tag page for “Wordpress” and hover over a few members or communities you will find a number of them were tagged by mbl-deliciousbot and mbl-technoratibot. There has been no mention of these bots so it’s anyones guess how comprehensive the tag crawling will be.

  • I just noticed this today. The comments about spam should be interesting to watch.

  • I signed up MyblogLog just two days ago. You see my face on your reader list. ;-)

I do see my traffic increase. I also used some technique that you or other post on the blog. I redirect alexa traffic to my blog.

Just curious, if you do make $$ from your blog even you are not intend to do so. ;-) I know John Chow’s web site is making pretty good $$ and claim he is not intend to do so at beginning.

I guess we are all helping each other out and get what we pay for in return.

    Again. Thanks!
