Wordpress Theme: 3-Column PressRow
After I redesigned this blog quite a few people emailed me asking how to add a third column to the PressRow theme. Rather than try to explain how to manually edit the theme files I’ve put this together.

And you solved the little problem that the text sticked to the left side of the browser too. That’s far better!

Hey Cool theme…I dunno why, I always have a liking to 3 column themes

Yep, Chris created an excellent theme but I prefer 3 columns also. It would appear alot of other people do to, if the emails I’ve been getting are any indication.

I like 3 columns themes because only then I will have space for my widgets

I like the way it looks also. Good job. Is there a more detailed tutorial on how to upload this. I am new to Wordpress.

Nice. Does the main coloumn adjust in size depending on the viewers screen res, or is it a fixed pixel size?

Hi, I also worked mods on Pressrow. Great base theme, ain’t it?
First let me tell you, see your theme’s files again and pay particular attention to how your header is being called. Pressrow uses a different one, something with include and when you use it for e.g like on the wordpress test sites, you see an error at the top :
Warning: filename: header.php, exec_fname: /home/themesw/public_html/testrun/wp-content/themes/3033/index.php, filepath: /home/themesw/public_html/testrun/wp-content/themes/3033/header.php in /home/themesw/public_html/testrun/wp-content/themes/3033/index.php on line 1
Furthermore, the theme don’ work on low resolution like 800×600, the 2nd sidebar disappear.
Moreover, I think that’s more prudent to call pages using the wordpress page template tag instead of relying on different page’s to call a header image.
There’s also a couple of minor issues, like see your notify me of followup comments area just below the comment’s form. I think Pressrow got some issues in the clear area…
I’ve called my mod the ColourFull Wall
Hope you like it.

I’m really tempted, Dan. I really like this theme.

Hans I’m aware of the problem with the header but I think this is only an issue with themes.wordpress.net because they limit certain calls for security reasons. In any case I do agree, the way Pressrow handles headers is outdated and heavy handed but I didn’t want to rewrite it for such a simple mod.
As for the difficulties with 800×600, I know about them as well but you have to draw a line somewhere, otherwise we’ll still be trying to support 640×480.
If there is significant interest in addressing these issues I’d be happy to do some recoding.

I don’t like the 3 columns*
it’s too busy with all the text links side by side*
maybe they should be separated by yer content*

Amir, no it doesn’t

I’m planning on doing an overhaul of this theme in the near future and I’ll be adding widgets.

Widgets are important of course…
July 10th, 2007 at 9:18 am
Dan when you do let me know. I had wanted to go with your 3 col. pressrow template on my site at http://www.agrandioseblog.com - but the lack of widget support made me choose the 3k2 redux klein template instead. Looking forward to this!

Great theme. Absolutely beautiful. I’ve used PressRow before and am thrilled with the 3 column version.
It appears that you have been able to integrate the tagline in The Wrong Advices header image. Can you tell me how to do that?
Many thanks!
July 13th, 2007 at 10:41 am
Rich, it appears that the text was added to the image, maybe via Photoshop or something like that. If you look at it closely, the text doesn’t seem sharp so maybe it was done with a photo editor separately, then added to the theme.

CC&M,
Thanks. I may resort to that. If I knew more about CSS I’d use that to do it. I’m sure there are lots of themes that overlay the tag line on the header image with CSS. This is one that I’m familiar with…

But I’m a CSS newbie, and not likely to attempt it!

The previous comment is spot on. My tagline was added to the image in photoshop. The easiest way to add your headline would be to do that as well.
To have it as text you would need to edit the header.php file and add your tagline inside the
<div id="pic"></div>code. Then it would need to be styled so it appeared in the position you wanted.Personally I think it looks better if you edit the image and add the text.

Thanks Dan. I’ll give it a shot.

No Sidebars Defined
You are seeing this message because the theme you are currently using isn’t widget-aware, meaning that it has no sidebars that you are able to change. For information on making your theme widget-aware, please follow these instructions.

Fresh install of this seems strange, the ‘more’ tag breaks it causing the sidebars to jump below the content.
Is there a fix for that?
