Joost Opens Its Doors A Little Wider
Joost has finally launched commercially but they aren’t making it easy. I don’t understand why they are still making people jump through hoops to use their service. Just let people sign up already.
From the press release:
Joost now is available to an unlimited number of friends, family and colleagues of existing beta testers. Starting today, when beta testers visit the “Invite Friends” widget in the “My Joost” area of Joost, they will be able to invite anyone they know to the Joost community. Both new and existing users can download a new version of Joost today.
I’ve been using Joost on and off for a few weeks now and while the quality of the streaming video is surprisingly good, it suffers from a short supply of content. Hopefully now that they’ve launched commercially we’ll start to see some new content added to their catalogue, and not just new advertising.

I dunno y’know, joost sounded well and good and i’ve tried using it a couple of times but for some reason it just jumps skips and stutters for me. maybe it’s my pc, maybe it’s my connection, all I know is I prefer the sites you’ve given me - at least they have a choice of programmes I actually want to watch - programmes that PLAY.

Vics - I’ve never had a problem with it skipping or stuttering, but I’m on a high bandwidth line here.
alluc.org and the rest of them are pretty good if you want to jump in straight away and start watching, but I still prefer torrents.

Meh, I’m on virgin (formerly NTL) cable broadband - what they claim we have and what we actually get regarding bandwidth are probably quite different, especially with 2 pc’s running off it (one of which is almost constantly in use as an online gaming pc)
alluc’s ok for me at the moment anyhow, just gutted they havent got the ‘gummi bears’ or ‘mysterious cities of gold’ cartoons on there for reminiscence sakes..

Get yourself to the nearest torrent vendor and you can do all the reminiscing you want.

ahh.. see now, I have this daft ‘thing’ about downloading, I don’t like to do it. I have nothing against other people doing it, but I’d rather copy than download..
I never said I was a logical person before you (or someone else) points out the daftness of this, it’s just one of my little quirks I guess.
It’s why people love me *snigger* honest it is..

If they are still offering unlimited invites, I’d be grateful if you could send me one the next time you log on.
Cheers

I know folks that were beta testing it and found it distracting. Takes lots of juice to run it, too.

Hi, i’m from Brazil and I found your blog in mybloglog.
Well, about joost, i think they’re very smart to let everybody signs up now, it’s marketing, they want joost like a “hype”. And of course, it’s in a beta phase
There’re a lots of bugs, maybe those bugs can scare some nb users hehehe
Sorry for my english, it isn’t good enough, hope you understand
That’s my opinion, i like your blog, design, content and so on.
Cya!
