Wordpress Plugin: Comment Rankings
Gary King has created a new plugin called Comment Rankings which displays stars in a post’s comments next to a comment authors name. The stars correspond to the total number of comments the person has made. The default setting is 10 comments per star. If you hover over the star count it will also display the persons total number of comments.
To change the default star value you have to edit the plugin file and there is nothing in place to avoid a long row of stars for a prolific commentor, or in the most obvious case the blog owner. You can see in the picture below how long the row of stars can get.

This plugin is a little unrefined at the moment, but I think at the very least it’s worth keeping an eye on.

We recently put the Spotback.com widgets on our site. It’s really cool, as well as rating comments, it also gives you a top commenters sidebar with personal recommendations. You can see it on my site.

mr. bink - I’m not too familiar with blogspot, but I don’t think it has the same kind of plugin support that Wordpress has.
Charbarred - I’m going to check it out now. Thanks for the tip.

I was going to ask about limits…in a few months you may have 18 rows of starts after your name. I like you and all, but I won’t like scrolling past rows of stars to find out that you said thanks.
Also, it may create unwanted behavior. For example, I am making a general comment here, but say I want to say something to Charbarred, instead of skipping a few lines and addressing him, I would make a new comment.
This is what happened basically with coComment. I was at the top by a long shot. A person who was 800 or so comments behind me, he passed me within 2 or 3 days. How? By addressing everybody else’s comments also, usually separately.

Hmm… It would be better if we get the number of comments when we hover over the name instead of having the starts. That’s just my humble opinion
