Wordpress Plugin: Full Text Feed

You may not have realised this but in the 2.1+ versions of Wordpress there is a bug/feature that cuts off your posts in RSS feeds when you use the <!––more––> tag.

I generally only use it on really long posts but when I do I’d still like the full post to be displayed in my feed.

I’m one of those people who believes you should display complete posts in your RSS feeds. If any of you use feed readers you would understand completely. Forcing people to visit your site defeats the purpose of offering a feed in the first place. But this is a discussion for another time.

What’s the solution?

As usual someone has come to the rescue and created a plugin to get around it.

Full Text Feed will make Wordpress display full content in feeds regardless of the presence of the <!–-more-–> tag.

Keep in mind you won’t be able to fix your older posts because most feed readers cache content and they don’t check for updates.

  • Thanks for the advice.

  • To play devil’s advocate, you don’t need a plugin to do that. You can just edit the way WP pulls your post from the database.

  • For the average person who isn’t particularly tech savvy copying a file over and activating a plugin would be easier. And frankly I’m too lazy to edit code when I can just use this. :)

  • haha true. BTW Dan it’s only one line.

  • I’m going plugin crazy at the minute and decided to stop by to raid your blog for ideas.. I’ve now got at least three more to upload.. Still struggling to find a simple admin configuration tool though, I tried 2 that looked good but just couldn’t get ‘em to work *sigh* trial and error all the way..

  • I’ve never really played around with admin plugins. What did you want it to do?

  • many many many things *grin*

I want to be able to twiddle with the admin navigation for one, it’s a ballache trundling back and forth and it takes so long to load - especially with the way our connection is at the moment, going through 3 pages just to get to the part I actually want to mess with is annoying..

  • good to see you’re alive and well though *grin* you’d gone all quiet on twitter..

  • I fear you might be asking a little too much from such a plugin. :)

Haven’t been on Twitter much. I’ve been so busy lately I’ve hardly had a chance.

  • *grin* what can I say - I’m a woman, we’re demanding *chuckle*

busy eh?1 well as long as you’re happy in your work m’love that’s all that counts ;)
