MyBlogLog Starts Doing Something About Spam
I only noticed this now but MyBlogLog is testing out a limit on the amount of messages that can be sent in a day. The limit they have imposed is 20, with the exception being if you send a message and get a reply the number doesn’t drop because you are actually engaging in a conversation.
Sounds like a good move to me. For one it will stop people spamming the newbies, and at the same time doesn’t effect people who want to chat back and forth.
For a laugh go and read the comments on the MyBlogLog blog post. Notice the people who are pissing and moaning the most are exactly the ones who spam the snot out of new users. No surprises there.
You get 20 chances a day now to send your spam. Either choose your targets a little more carefully, or simply get over it.

oh man! I just read the comments like you said and all the people that spamed me are mad. I think the limit is a good thing. I would hate to see mybloglog have the same fate a Myspace. Were is all full of fake accounts and spamers!

I feel for you Robyn, just a couple of days into the job and you’re already in amongst the wolves.
I don’t know what sort of feedback you’ve been getting by email but you may just have a very vocal minority on your hands.

It is a good move that MyBlogLog doing such a exercise on limiting message that can be sent per day. But of course there is a con about it, which also mean, some of the member might have limitation to chat with each other via MyBloglog in a day.
In one day, Sven, i received almost about 3 ~ 10 message about hot stuff and url link on the message when the time i was at the Hot Communities List.
Conclusion, fully support what MyBloglog is doing, and they also hope the best for us member.

Dan, thanks for the positive post. I’m committed to sticking to my guns and running this test for a couple weeks, but it’s a hard when you have a vocal group of people yelling for your head. I may come back to you for another dose of reassurance next week

When I first joined MBL a couple weeks ago I got three or four messages right away, and I thought Wow, this is nice. But I soon realized these were just come-ons to the particular site and that there was no personal interest in me. Certainly limiting non-conversational messages to 20 seems reasonable. The non-conversational part is the key. After all, it’s conversations we want to have, isn’t it? And these aren’t limited under this plan.

Eric at the end of the day the people complaining won’t leave anyway. They know if they go off to one of these smaller sites they’ll have a smaller pool to fish in and in all likelyhood there will be even less tolerance for their behaviour. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
Just keep your head down and stay away from the windows.

My favourite spam was the french lady who wanted to have a “serious conversation”. I was like “woo looks like im gettin laid”
Then I went over to her page, and not surprisingly, all other guys were like “yeah, what do you want wanna talk about ?”. So that lady was either a hooker or a spammer, but Google confirmed her to be spammer.

I’m so glad they decided to do this. I get tired of the spammers out there…especially the ones who keep forgeting who they’ve spammed and hit my site twice in one week! C’mon! Really? I didn’t respond to you the first time, and you’re spamming me again??

I’ll have to agree with you on this one. Although I do like to go out and thank everyone who has visited my page, I do like the idea that a person gets 20 chances to send out messages. Also, if you get a message in return, you wind up earning an extra one! So I see nothing wrong in their idea.
