Beautiful Cars Crashed By Rich Idiots
After watching Eddie Griffin destroy a Ferrari Enzo I was reminded of some of the other times rich idiots have killed beautiful and expensive cars.
I’ve put together a list of some of the more memorable crashes.
- Car: McLaren F1
Value: US $1.2 million
Idiot at the wheel: Rowan Atkinson - Comedian/Actor
What happened: Rear-ended an old granny in an Austin Metro.
- Car: Ferrari Enzo
Value: US $1.2 million
Idiot at the wheel: Stefan Eriksson - Former Gizmondo Exec
What happened: Crashed into a pole at 199 mph (320.61 km/h). Tried to blame it on his imaginary friend Dietrich.
- Car: Bugatti Veyron
Value: US $1.4 million
Idiot at the wheel: Ajay Soni - Businessman
What happened: Lost control in wet conditions and hit a Vauxhall Astra, driven by a pregnant woman. To make matters worse the car was owned by his brother Kumar, who naturally spat the dummy when he found out about the accident.
- Car: Koenigsegg CCX
Value: US $0.65 million
Idiot at the wheel: The nephew of one of the owners of H&M, a high end Swedish clothing store.
What happened: Hit a garbage truck while trying to overtake another car.
- Car: Ferrari Enzo
Value: US $1.2 million
Idiot at the wheel: Suleyman Kerimov - Russian Billionaire
What happened: Lost control while speeding in the rain and hit a tree, splitting the car in half. To top it all off the car then caught on fire.
- Car: Lamborghini Diablo SE30 Jota
Value: US $0.3 million
Idiot at the wheel: Jay Kay - Leadsinger of Jamiroquai
What happened: Crashed while trying to make a turn.
- Car: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
Value: US $0.45 million
Idiot at the wheel: ’Prince’ Naseem Hamed - Former Champion Boxer
What happened: Crashed head-on into a Volkswagen Golf at 90mph (144 km/h) trying to impress his passenger. Went to prison for 15 months.

It just hurts to see such beautiful cars handled in such a way. Perhaps they should learn how to drive these exotics prior to being able to buy them
Why is it though on most shots with Ferrari’s they are split in half. Has anyone else noticed that? Most accidents I see that involves a Ferrari they’re torn in two!

Great post. It reminds me of “A day in a life” by the Beatles.

The title did match the content very well
Feeling very bad about the Cars ;=( they didn’t make to the right hands..!!!

Good lord. What a waste of some seriously beautiful machines
Stefan Eriksson was lucky to even live and be able to blame the whole thing on his imaginary pal. Hitting a telephone pole at 199 mph? Dayum. Moron.

Well, the title says it all really. I cannot believe the amount of money gone in an instant of stupidity. The idea of wrecking a “toy” that is worth the same as decent housing for multiple families is nauseating.

These pictures make me depressed =(

I think it’s interesting and sad to note that over just those 7 crashes the total value is US $6.4 million. That’s crazy.
The other depressing thing is most of those cars were only produced in limited numbers, for instance only 400 Ferrari Enzo’s were produced.

I am afraid you have not done your research very well at all. How could you have missed the following:
Car: 1972 Datsun 1600
Value: US$150
Idiot at the wheel: Coach McGee
What happened?: Rolled on dirt road in the Gold Coast hinterland after best mate pulled on the hand brake.

Well actually I see such idiots nearly everyday when I drive at work. They don’t “always” have such expensive cars but they do the same shit….
It’s no diffrence if your rich or not, or what car you drive. The important thing is that you drive the car and not car you….

Jay Kay was not behind the wheel of his car when it crashed…Someone else was as it was being taken to a video shoot.
You might want to check your facts before posting something like this.
April 6th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
You might also want to check your monetary write outs..
When doing US money it should read $3.0 million or just $3 million
$0.3 million doesn’t make sense as $0.3 means 3 pennies = 3 cents.
Just trying to help you out.
April 6th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
If $0.3 is 3 cents then what is 3 cents times a million. Let me see, $300,000. Don’t blame me if you’re too lazy to do a little math. No one else had a problem understanding it, and frankly you should check your own monetary write outs. Go do a search for a few financial reports and you’ll see it’s a standard way of writing large monetary amounts.
As for Jay Kay the majority of reports I read said he was driving, but I couldn’t find anything definitive either way. Seeing as he’s admitted to crashing a bunch of cars I thought I’d leave it in.

You people are obviously not of independent means. I can think of no better way to enjoy an expensive thing than to consume it in an extravagant way. Be jealous if you must, but don’t try too hard to understand those of use with well-stocked wine cellars and garages. Well done, gents!

Didn’t even know Mr. “Recycle” Bin used to drive a McLaren F1. Poor besides he resembles the Disney’s hero Goofy he even drives the way stupid cartoon dog does.
On the other hand I feel empathy for Mr. Jamiroquai especially when reminiscing his “Cosmic Girl” clip. Sad

Dan -
Why are you so angry in your reply? I did get the math wrong and I apologize for that. I wasn’t being smart ass or anything. You should really chill on being so hostile.
Jay was definitely not driving. I don’t see how you couldn’t find anything to support that if you indeed did research. It’s not that hard to find.
At anyrate, good luck with your blog.
April 24th, 2007 at 2:21 am
Dan, I didn’t mean to be rude and hostile in my previous comment, so don’t take it too serious.
Regarding to what I told, I do consider some persons in your list real “idiots” in this certain situation, which is crashing the car in a ridiculous way (like showing off and demonstrating to people what a virtuoso on the roads I am).
What concerns Jay, you got me wrong. I like a lot what he did/does and hopefully will do, which is his musical career and really feel pity he crashed his car.

Andy I think we both misunderstood each other. It’s hard to get a handle on the tone of a comment when its just words on a screen. In any case we cool.

some people just suck at life
December 4th, 2007 at 8:38 am
I think its a case of too much money = no respect for anything nice, when you can afford to buy anything, nothing has no value.
December 6th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
Makes you want to cry!
February 22nd, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Just cause these guys can afford to buy and wreck cars like these, doesn’t mean that they are idiots. I see plenty of people in their everyday cars that drive like idiots also. If you are consumed by jealousy, you will never get to a point in life where you car afford a machine like these and be able to drive it without worry.

indo lumbar: I just read your comment and I agree. Very well put.
April 22nd, 2008 at 12:24 am
100% great content. Thanks for sharing.
Rather than buying an expensive cars people shuold check the safety features.
June 29th, 2008 at 6:07 am
I’m barely holding my tears…
August 15th, 2008 at 6:21 am
I don’t think there was anything wrong with the cars’ safety features, it was all driver error! I love exotic cars, seeing them like this hurts…
