Predict Your PageRank
If you’ve only recently started a blog, or any other type of website for that matter, your Google PageRank will be at zero. But that doesn’t mean you can’t track your progress. iWEBTOOL have a really useful PageRank prediction tool that I suggest you have a look at.
I gave it a run today and was surprised to see the predicted PageRank for this blog to be PR5, with an accuracy of 82%. I’m really hoping it sticks.
Let me know what predicted PageRank you get for your blog.
If you want to burn through some time there are a number of other useful tools too.

My current is 0 and my predicted is 3 (3.4) at 92.4% accuracy it says I have 1900 link backs but according to my recent post: http://www.tyleringram.com/blog/Googles-Webmaster-Tools-Update
I have roughly 2600 backlinks
Monique: going from 3 to 5 is a good thing. It means you’re site is more popular and valuable when being searched for various criteria.

I’m not sure what this thing uses to predict pagerank but it says I’m going from a 4 to a 6…which is…uh…generous I think.

At a guess I’d say it looks at the amount of backlinks you have and the quality of those links, and then maybe compares that to sites similar to yours to get the pagerank and accuracy. It’s not going to be perfect but from the comments I’ve seen people make it’s usually not too far off.

I find your post interesting especially the part about a new site having a Google pagerank of 0. In all honesty when I first started my website and blog within a couple of weeks I had a Google pagerank of 5. You would almost think I went on some sort of SEO and link campaign but I did nothing of the sort. At any rate over time the pagerank dropped a bit and I’ve been working on getting it back up. I have learned a fair bit while doing so and thought I might share a couple of things.
The more backlinks the better but as the old adage goes quality beats quantity. You want backlinks preferably from sites with a pagerank higher than yours. It also helps tremendously when your backlinks are from various IP’s, the more varied the better. A good example would be 100 backlinks all from seperate IP’s as opposed to 1000 backlinks all from the same IP.
In regards to Dan’s comment: you’re quite right about comparison between your site and those linking to you and those you link to. This can both benefit and be detrimental depending on how things are done. It’s a good thing when you want to be found for certain topics, however if not careful your site could get pigeonholed into a “community” you may not want to be associated with. This also ties in with the anchor text being used to link back into your site. The more varied the better but of course using words or terms that compliment your content.

Very good post and comments. Jono Cono - appreciate the time you took to elaborate.
I wonder though if this PR thing is not all about chasing shadows. Seems many people have some sort of obsession when in truth, most efforts will be rewarded ultimately with a downgrade or an outright ban.

I am personally pretty impressed with that I would of expected a PR much lower than that, lets hope that that is correct
Great find Dan.

Sorry to squash your dreams but ALL pagerank predictors are completely faulty and useless!
For one Google has completely changed the PR system since they were coded (requires 100 back links to predict… bs one or two PR8 links can give you pr6 on next update)
and secondly, they Never worked! Not even with the old algorithms!
Stick to checking what links come in, what pr the page linking has and try to get more links.

It’s nice to play with pagerank, but it’s more important to get a better position for your keyword in search results!
