A Better Way To Treat Chickenpox

Here’s a little bit of info that I wish I’d had the first day I came down with Chickenpox. If you or your kids ever have the misfortune of catching this virus I’d suggest trying the following treatment.

Everyone seems to swear by calamine lotion but it didn’t do much for me. So, after two sleepless nights a really helpful chemist set me straight. Here are the two things he suggested.

  1. Antihistamine tablets.
  2. Eurax cream (Crotamiton cream).

In my case the combination of antihistamine tablets and Eurax cream almost completely removed the itching. I wasn’t expecting it to work that well but it was welcome relief. At that point I would have covered myself head-to-toe in teriyaki sauce if I knew it would help.

The other thing you’ll want to take is Paracetamol, to help keep the fevers at bay. I was burning up every night and being that hot only inflames the Chickenpox spots.

There isn’t much else you can do really apart from rest and daydream about driving a 2 tonne truck over the person who infected you.

  • Thanks for that advice. My 2 year old daughter has chickenpox at the moment and I’ve been dousing her in calamine lotion. I’ll be popping to the pharmacy for some of that eurax tomorrow to try it out.

    Peace!
