Brain tinkering, prehistoric domains, and Sony being Sony

Wired has an article by a man named Steven Gulie, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease. He had electrodes planted in his brain which sent through electric shocks in an attempt to treat the disease. He was awake during the surgery and gives an account of the experience. It’s a long read but very interesting. Having witnessed first hand the sudden deterioration of someone with dementia I can appreciate how fragile and perplexing the human brain can be. Our sum knowledge on the subject is sorely lacking compared to other fields of science.

Back when the interwebs where just a bunch of tin cans and string you still had to register a domain name. Here are the 100 oldest dot-com domain names that are still currently registered. There are plenty of familiar faces.

Remember how Sony said rumble in controllers was last-gen? Well it looks like they changed their mind. Again. Sony is the poster child for foot in mouth sydrome.

  • I really liked the link to the 100 oldest domain names, but I noticed this at at the bottom of the page:

This domain list was part of a 30-Nov-2004 blog entry
at Jottings.com entitled “My Kingdom for a Time Machine!”

I wonder if that list is dynamic - is it still updating, are those domains still active?

  • I think the actual jottings site is defunct now and they have just left up a couple of the popular articles. I don’t think the list is being updated. I might go through a couple on the list and see what they’re status is.

  • I’m inspired by the Steven Guile’s article, mainly because my family has an inherent history of Parkinson’s. So far, my family who are infected with it shows only 4 to 5 signs of the disease, but I’m glad to know that there is hope for a potential permanent treatment for this.
